25/6/2014 Pope warns against DIY Christianity
“I believe in God, in Jesus, but the in church- I don’t care. How many times have we heard this? This is wrong. There are those who believe you can have a personal, direct and immediate relationship with Jesus Christ outside of the communion and mediation of the Church. These temptations are dangerous and harmful. They are in the words of the great Pope Paul VI “absurd dichotomies.”
….Remember being a Christian means belonging to the church. First Name: Christian Last Name: Church Member.”…
This is nonsense. Being a Christian means following Jesus Christ and his teachings. Leading a life equitable to the teachings of Jesus. There are many people who must sustain a direct & immediate relationship with Jesus which provides & sustains them in their lives. In fact, we all must sustain ourselves with a direct & immediate relationship with Jesus. This is neither dangerous nor harmful.
The aspect about the Pope’s statement that I find particularly concerning is the fact that it seems like a precursor to “state-run-religion”. This was not what Jesus had intended, as he welcomed his followers out of love and leadership. His words reflected His actions. Now, that is something I cannot say about pope Francis, and that is both dangerous and harmful!
